I know it’s selfish…
Zoikes. I lived in Portland for eight years and loved it, and if I lived there I’m sure I would be bitter that one can no longer live in the top floor of a converted church for $600/mo (man, I miss that apartment), but…well, having returned to my hometown of NYC the phrase “cry me a river” comes to mind when others complain about housing costs in the cities they grew up in.
but sometimes I wish people would stop moving to Portland. If you’re thinking about moving here, i recommend you don’t. We have enough out-of-towners already, thanks, and I’d like to be able to afford a decent place to live in the city I grew up in.Grand Rapids, Michigan wants you! Actually our city slogan should be “Grand Rapids, Michigan: Better than you think!”
