Bill Mack - Play My Boogie
For today’s pedal steel week post I’m heading back to the raw four on the floor energy of Bill Mack’s proto-rockabilly. Recorded for Imperial Records in 1952, this track is heavy on the piano but the pedal steel break in the middle is easily enough to get it on my list for the week. Plus, as Bill himself notes, it ain’t too fast and it ain’t too slow.
Pop culture note: remember LeAnn Rimes? The 13 year old who recorded that yodelicious song “Blue” that was all over the charts in 1996? Well, that song was written and first recorded by this very same Bill Mack.
