How to Embarrass Yourself Out of a Competitive Advantage
I’m genuinely fascinated by how consistently Microsoft’s marketing is tone deaf and hamfisted. As my wife noted after watching the Windows 7 party video linked below, “I like how it shows that you can use Windows 7 even if you’re old, black, or a woman.”
Microsoft’s got a long history of producing terrible, cringe-inducing videos. The marketing whizzes in Redmond gave us the now-classic introduction to Windows 95 starring Jennifer Aniston and Matthew Perry. They also gave us the host your own Windows 7 party. And now there’s Googlighting, an attack on Google Apps for Business that just comes across as lame, even though Microsoft makes a lot of compelling points against Google Apps.
