An interesting observation. I hadn’t thought about it, but I’ve rarely, if ever, heard the phrase “ten point six” pass anyone’s lips: it’s always “snow leopard.”  It’d make aesthetic sense for Apple, too. De-emphasize the mechanical “OS version” in favor of an appealing, memorable signifier.   And making a big deal over the significance and import of the shift away from numbers would be a goon show, Microsoft-marketing-at-its-worst sort of move, so Apple just blesses the mindshift without making a big deal about it. I could see it. Very interesting. parislemon: I can’t seem to find any reference to “OS X 10.7” here, nor do I recall Steve Jobs saying that on stage today. All he said was that this was the eighth version of the OS.  Interesting that Apple has gone from the big cat names being nicknames to them totally replacing the version number. A smart move though for the regulars, I think.
