It’s crisp, fast, responsive and built on a foundation that will allow us to do some amazing things with it in the future. Still, some folks want more. They want their old libraries back. To be blunt it’s not going to happen. That will piss some people off. We understand and empathize with that. Some users may even decide to abandon our platform. We hope not and they give the new update some time.

I’m in the camp that will miss the old-style library, but I absolutely agree that it’s better to make the decision and make the change rather than taking half steps to try to appease everyone.

I think that v3 is a huge step for ExFM, and one that makes the product a lot more accessible and useful for a lot more users, but I add a caveat to that.

While it was a real issue that Exfm didn’t work the way that people expect a “music discovery service” to work, it was also a strength. The moment that you realized what Exfm was doing was a really powerful “holy crap, this is awesome and I’ve never seen anything like it” moment.

Exfm is a better product now, I think, but it’s also somewhat more like the competing products, which puts a different set of concerns on the table.

And I’ll close with my own blunt statement: I’m not in love with some of the changes, but there’s no way I’m going to abandon the platform, guys.
