Ice Cube - It Was A Good Day

Heard this last night, and as if for the first time heard the lines:

I was glad everything had worked out
dropped her ass off then I chirped out
today was like one of those fly dreams
didn’t even see a berry flashing those high beams

He “chirped out” that today was like one of those fly dreams and so on? Was Ice Cube using some sort of proto-Twitter back in 1992? Had he developed it himself? Was his split with NWA actually rooted in a disagreement over the direction the product should take?

Damn. Ice Cube is a pimp.

The plural of anecdote is not data.

Bitly Chief Scientist, Hilary Mason, reminds us via the above famous quote not to conflate the specific with the generic, all while eating her tuna melt at Hector’s.  Wise words. (via gbattle)

Key

Though it’s also important to remember that no matter how clear the data may appear to be, the decision on what to do about it is in your own flawed, human hands.

Sleater-Kinney - More Than A Feeling

newspeedwayboogie:

Boston cover.  ‘nuff said.  Tell me you don’t start smiling when the infamous guitar lines kick in.

It’s more than a feeling/when I hear that old song they used to play

This is either epic or the total opposite of epic, and whichever it is I love it.

Nina Hagen - Personal Jesus (Depeche Mode cover)

I’ve never really liked going out to clubs and it’s been years since I’ve taken any drugs, but Nina Hagen’s take on Personal Jesus kind of makes me want to take drugs and go out to clubs.

Happy cover Friday!

Our original goal as founders for the company was just to earn as much money as our friends were earning working for soul destroying consulting companies like IBM or PriceWaterhouseCoopers

Scott Farquhar bootstrapped Atlassian from $0 to $60M in revenue.  (via brycedotvc)

…and did so while making some pretty wonderful software.

All of Your Social Media Updates Now Sent to Your Inbox

caterpillarcowboy:

postling:

What’s the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning? Aside from brush your teeth, it’s usually check your email. After chatting with small businesses, we realized we could make social media even easier and more convenient.

Starting tomorrow, Postling users will receive a Daily Digest, which will show them all of the things that happened with their accounts over the past 24 hours that may need their attention.

If someone comments on your tweet or blog post, it’ll be there. Get a new review on Yelp? It’ll also be in your digest email. Each result gives you the option to reply to or re-post, allowing you to see what is important and react quickly.

Want to receive your daily digest at a different point in the day? Change your email settings here.

As always, we love to hear feedback from our users! Don’t hesitate to reach out to us on Twitter, Facebook, e-mail, or in our forums.

Alexis Lamster | VP of Customers | alexis@postling.com

I’m excited about this. It’s like NutshellMail, for your business.

I’ll just note one little thing here: did you notice the sentence “want to receive your daily digest at a different point in the day?” As in, “your schedule may not overlap with when it’s most convenient for us to send out a batch of email, but that’s our problem rather than yours?” Nicely done.

The Mountain Goats and Kaki King - Thank You Mario But Our Princess Is In Another Castle

Normally the individual songs that I become obsessed with either start with or accumulate personal baggage: they have lyrical or musical content that hits one of my personal triggers, or they become inextricably linked to something that was going on in the period when I first heard them.

This one, on the other hand, is just a perfectly flawed little world, complete on its own.

You probably haven’t heard it in a while. Take a couple of quiet minutes and listen.
