Regifting Report
Last night we went to our friends’ traditional New Year’s Eve Eve regifting party. Everyone brings their most unwanted, confusing, or repellent holiday gift of the year. All the gifts are placed under the tree, and then after all involved have been drinking for a couple of hours those gifts are re-gifted to random lucky recipients. This year we gave a cookie jar shaped like an ice...

“never make users do work that machines can easily do”
– Rocky Agrawal Why haven’t list features on Facebook and/or Twitter caught on? - Quora Because they are manual and require people to do work. People hate to do work, especially when it’s upfront work for some possible future benefit. To use a not too far off example: consider the success of Mint....

Sonic Youth Share Captain Beefheart, Martin Mull...
twentyfourbit: Sonic Youth took to their official Facebook and SoundCloud pages yesterday to share a few recordings from the archives in light of sad recent news of Don Van Vliet’s passing and in celebration of the more joyous upcoming Christmas holiday. The latter tribute, a cover of “Santa Doesn’t Cop Out on Dope” by actor/musician Martin Mull (who, BTW, stars in one of the best Tom Waits TV...

Except that, as seems to be a habit with Microsoft, they’re apparently reporting the sold into retail number rather than the number of phones “sold” in the sense that one normally uses the word. The rush of year-end wrapup posts is already well underway. While I never really do much along those lines, I always poke around a bit towards the end of the year to see whether there’s anything interesting in my personal Web stats. This year I’ve found that now — with just 21 days left in the year — this picture of Bryce Roberts is neither the most viewed page nor the...

Two people in our office received pints of custom branded ice cream in the mail yesterday. They were sent by a startup that’s building a tool for Web display advertising. Which is interesting because our company neither runs third-party ads on our site nor purchases any meaningful amount of advertising space (and what display advertising we do isn’t controlled — or even...
