February 2009
Just heard mashup of GnR’s paradise city with Jackson 5 abc 123. Kind of unbearable, kind of awesome.
Starting to find it suspicious that the 4yo *always* beats me at candyland.

Java app calls CGI; CGI writes shell script; shell script executes perl script; head explodes.

So…has anybody found a site that Google *doesn’t* think may harm your computer? Something w/pics of cute baby animals, maybe?
Two days sick == three days behind. Heading in to the office. Gah.
Error message: “What the hell?” Gee, thanks…somebody gets a beatdown. Let’s hope it’s not me.
The A Train to Far Rockaway on Friday nights was the hippest party in town. A...

Whit: sweet — that’s a student of Nordine, Waits, and Frank right there. Love.
National Geographic to Launch Record Label →
Excellent!

The National Geographic Society announced today that it will launch a full-service record label, Nat Geo Music—which also serves as the music division the company established in 2007. The label will “record, release and promote modern music from around the globe” from a variety of artists and genres, the company said, and be distributed...
Just dropped the last nyquil capsule into the trash can full of used kleenex. I guess you’d call this a moment of self-discovery.
Of course I don’t have meningitis, but it’d be a waste of the internet to let all that information go un-looked-at…
4yo came in to sing *me* a bedtime song. “Three little penguins in a jar, when we hatch, here we are.” Sweet. Also: jarred penguin? Eech.
Does Andrew Bird have a new album out or...
I like it from around the middle forward (from Not a Robot, But a Ghost on) more than the first part, which for the first few listens has felt a little too “floaty” to me. Not sure whether that’s helpful…

And has anyone who’s heard it say if it’s any good?
I’ve got a fever of 101, and 4yo’s school just called to say she threw up. Looking like a fun evening ahead.

Jazz News: Obama's Secret Record Collection →
Just registered whitehousevinyl.com and vinylforobama.com…I’m thinking a site that coordinates donations of vinyl to the White House collection: I’m sure it’s missing a bunch of recent records that I’d consider essential, and I’d rather it be you and me adding to the collection rather than the RIAA.

It’s incredible how long an email thread entitled “Final update this morning” can get.
Went to sleep at noon, woke up just in time to put 4yo to bed. Disorienting.

We’re all fools. Possibly primal scream #1: Janis, Piece of My Heart. Throat and soul shredding.
8:22 AM and finally running some tests on new data center. Thus far have confirmed that I am extremely tired.
Awake again for the oft-rescheduled data center cutover. Everyone noticeably less chipper than they were five hours ago. Including me.
Sigh. Data center cutover now scheduled for 2:30. Ish. Would nap, except brain all fast thinky now. Perhaps some more espresso.
Also: I’m not actually *doing* anything for data center cutover, just being on the phone. Just in case. In case of what? Undefined.
Eating leftover pizza before heading to a party hosted by the dining editor of the NY Times…but I’m hungry *now,* damn it!
A note on Soulseek
“Personally, I don’t buy into the “Hype-Machine-as-a-source-of-new-music” ethos that everyone has been buzzing about the last couple of weeks. To me, aggregation means nothing. I don’t agree with the tastes of the aggregate. Hell, I don’t agree with the tastes of my best friends. But I can conceptualize what those tastes are, what they mean to me and how to perceive their...

Weird. By one definition, #myfirstjob was as a semi-professional bagpipe player. Made more money busking than my first “real” job…
